More address details
Derbigum’s mission is to develop innovative and sustainable solutions tailored to the clients’ needs aiming to save energy costs, produce renewable energy, improve sustainability and thus reduce their building's ecological footprint.
From a traditional waterproofing producer Derbigum has become a new international player in energy saving products and services. The group consolidated net turnover is approximately 110 million Euro.
Production
Derbigum has 3 production units: two in Belgium (Lot and Perwez) and one in the United States (Kansas). The company produces about 15 million m2 of membrane per year, of which 10 million m2 are produced in Perwez and 5 million m2 in Kansas City. Liquid products account for 3.5 million kg in volume.
Export
More than two thirds of the production is exported. For the distribution and the retail of its products Derbigum has developed, besides its network of certified roofers, a wide network of professional construction material distributors. Derbigum has subsidiaries in the Netherlands, France, Italy, Norway and the United States. The company is also represented in Denmark, Germany, Finland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Switzerland.
International network
Derbigum can also count on a wide network of professional roofers, the “Performance Derbigum Network”, recognizable thanks to its quality label ‘Sealed Roofs Derbigum’.
Derbigum Energies
Derbigum Energies is a Derbigum team of experts in energy audits, energy savings and renewable energy production. In the framework of an economical and ecological all-in solution for energy efficient building management it provides various solutions ranging from a complete energy audit of the site, to a global solution concept tailored to the needs of the customer including the follow-up of the jobsite and the maintenance through a network of partners. Derbigum Energies also advises financial institutions that are overwhelmed with demands from companies for environment-friendly investments.
Nowadays, 20% of the total turnover is generated by Derbigum Energies' “greennovations”.
Derbigum Energies is active in the whole of Europe, especially in Belgium, France, Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. It has signed up partnerships with big names such as EDF, Briand, Sidec and UNISOLAR.
Research & Development
Thanks to a continuous investment in Research and Development, Derbigum has managed to develop quite some innovative products and impose itself at an international level. To maintain its technological advance and to continue to produce high-quality products and services, Derbigum invests a substantial part of its budget in R&D. Nowadays this department employs not less than 10 people.
In 2008 Derbigum received the Best Innovator Award Belgium, a price given by the strategy consultant AT Kearney and its partners for the many innovative products for sustainable energy management and its intensive recycling program of raw materials - a success that is for a large part due to the strong focus on R&D.
Some of the high-tech products by Derbigum include: the semi-automatic Mac Max to apply roofing membranes on large surfaces, the Spraygun pump for the mechanical application of cold adhesive and the Derbigum membranes on TPO-bitumen base and with dual reinforcement.
Revolutionary is also the entire NT-range and Derbisolar®.
Environmental Protection
Derbigum’s environmental policy for years is unique. The many efforts, in production of the materials as well as waste, have been rewarded by the granting of the ISO 14001 certificate and the EMAS norm.
Among all European small and medium sized enterprises Derbigum has been awarded the EMAS price from the European Commission, given to enterprises and public authorities that have distinguished themselves in terms of environmental management. Specifically, Derbigum has been recognized for its fantastic results in energy savings and reduction of CO2 emissions. Derbigum reduced its CO2 production by 30% over the last five years. Moreover, the amount of energy needed for the production of each square metre Derbigum has been reduced by 30% for electricity and 25% for gas over the last six years. Furthermore, all the energy used by Derbigum in the production process are from renewable energy sources.
For many years Derbigum has been investing in the recycling of raw materials and the development of durable solutions both for energy production and savings for roofs (see also: Derbigum Energies and Derbigum product range). The integrated system with which production waste is entirely recycled into new raw material without quality loss is a true ecological revolution. Derbigum developed and patented a concept to recycle 100% of the waste flow into pure raw material. Derbigum has developed and patented a concept to recycle for 100% to pure raw material. Today, more then a quarter the raw material is recycled bitumen, which is 4000 tons per year.
A few more examples of sustainable initiatives: the appeal to their suppliers for more efficient and less voluminous packaging, recycling and management of packagings, re-use of bitumen and polymers, research for non-toxic products, reduction of smoke and fumes, separation of the waste water circuit, recycling into new products, longer durability of the products...
Service and training
Apart from innovative products and a constant quest for quality, Derbigum also bases its success on an unlimited service. Thus, the company provides a technical assistance to its clients all over the world. A dedicated team provides on site advice and, if necessary, specialist solutions. On-site technical assistance is available everywhere where new Derbigum products or application methods are used for the first time. Further in the aim of offering a complete service, large practical demonstration campaigns are now organized specifically for every country.
Roofers also have the possibility to improve their professional knowledge in Derbigum’s training centres. Correct application is the key to a durable roof. Derbigum's Training Center in Lot (BE) trains about 1000 roofers every year.
Derbibrite NT®: the white reflective waterproofing membrane
The most important advantage of this innovative roofing membrane is its cooling effect, Derbibrite NT reduces energy consumption and enhances comfort. The white acrylic surface reflects the sunrays better than any other material: up to 76% of light reflection . In that way the heat that normally penetrates the building through the roof is shut out in the best possible way. The surface temperature of the roof is reduced by at least 40°C in comparison to the traditional black roofs.
Moreover, combined with photovoltaic panels Derbibrite NT offers a huge advantage in comparison to non-reflective roofing. The high reflectivity of the Derbibrite NT increases the diffuse light radiation on solar panels, making them more efficient.
Derbisolar®: the waterproofing membrane with integrated solar panels
Derbisolar: where waterproofing and solar energy meet. This composite material for flat roofs consists of the Derbibrite NT membrane with dual reinforcement and flexible a-Si amorphous photovoltaic cells. A marriage as it were between acryl and amorphous cells. Even a perfect one because the amorphous cells adhere extremely well to the Derbibrite NT, producing energy all day long. It is this combination that makes Derbisolar unique on the bituminous waterproofing market: both the sun and the waterproofing produce energy.
Derbigum: professional waterproofing membranes
Derbigum is the reference brand for all professionals. Synonym of high-tech waterproofing membranes, Derbigum also affords a new range of liquid and semi-liquid products for treatment and finishing. Each meets the strongest standards in terms of reliability, security and durability (proven longevity of 30 years). The 600 million square metres of Derbigum applied worldwide, from the highest buildings in Kuala Lumpur to the thousands of industrial buildings and private houses, are the best evidence of a long-lasting trust in the company’s products.
The base of the Derbigum products is an enhanced bitumen with an unmatched ageing resistance. At its surface a glass fibre reinforcement imparts a perfect dimensional stability and protection against UV rays. A second reinforcement in non-woven polyester reinforces the membrane and makes it more resistant to jobsite traffic and tearing. The unique application process with cold adhesive improves Derbigum’s efficiency even more. This cold bituminous adhesive developed by Derbigum ensures a uniform grip on the entire surface of the membrane.
The NT-range®:
In 2009 Derbigum developed and launched the NT-range for optimal environmental friendliness. The durable NT-products are made from vegetable oils and recycled raw materials, are 100% recyclable and reunite quality and environmental friendliness.
During all these years Derbigum built up a solid reputation in the waterproofing sector. The brand Derbigum protects more than 600 million square metres of roofs all over the world, from the freezing Poles to the tropics.
Derbigum’s professional field is wide, embracing civil and industrial engineering (new constructions and renovations) as well as road constructions. Thus, for example, the waterproofing of the TGV line from Brussels to the French border was entirely completed with DERBIGUM. Some of the many other Belgian references are: UCB and the Debroux viaduct in Brussels, Sidmar in Zelzate and Center Parcs in Lommel.
